St John the Evangelist - Short Stories

DAY TWO:

In day two we were more engaged in listening and sharing our synopsis and what our stories were about.

The 'goal' for the day was to listen to some of the different ideas based on the general themes, 'Mystery and Adventure.' We also gave some suggestions to the person who was reading out their sysnopsis and told them what they needed to improve on. Some of the sixteen students wrote their stories based on, 'haunted schools, a missing crown, missing parents and children, racialsm, fighting and other interesting adventures and mysteries.

Then we talked about the changes in the stories like having a negative part in the beggining and a positive part in the end.Day two ended with us starting to plan our short stories.

Below are examples of some of the synopses written by Epi and Tisiola.

THE HAUNTED SCHOOL:

My story is about four brothers and sisters who were new at school but, what they didnt know was that their school is haunted. As they started St Mary's High it was alot different to the other schools they had attended. The teachers were dressed in a funny way. I researched on the net and typed in, "St Mary's High" and they couldnt believe their eyes. They found out that the school they had attended is haunted. One day they had decided to sneak into school at night and find out some interesting facts about who haunted the school and why? two of the students were too scared to go, but eventually went. Most of them weren't even scared! They were all ready to get freaked out! Each one went into a room. As they went in the room, the door slammed and on the back of each door, there was a message saying, "YOU ONLY HAVE FOUR HOURS TO ESCAPE OR SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN TO YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS!"

THE MISSING CROWN:

A family finds a brochure in the mailbox. They discover that they have been chosen to find the missing crown that was stolen in the year 1980 up to 2010. Each familythat has been chosen gave up finding the missing crown, so they depend on this last family that could save the earth. The crown has to be found before the clock strikes 12midnight December 5th and only if the crown is on the statue of the queen, the queen will be in peace. If the family does not find the missing crown the queen will wake up and make everyone suffer because of the thief that has taken it. Its December 4th and the family have only 24hours to find the golden crown. The family are in the Athens, Greece where the missing crown is and have been given clues to where the missing crown might lead them to. As they go on this mysterious adventure, things go from good to even more interesting as they find the answers to most of the clues. Will the Cullen's family be in time to catch the thief and the crown of the queen or will they get a spell.

St John the Evangelist - Short Stories

VISION:

Our vision for St John the Evangelist was to compose an anthology of 16 short stories, order to be carefully considered. Pages would be A4 in size, preferably, spiral bound, full colour cover with original art work and design with a blurb on the back cover. Each story should be about 2000 words. The girls and their teacher were looking forward to Tessa's visit.

DAY ONE:

The first hour was spent getting to know each other. We listened attentively as Tessa told us about herself. This was followed by the teacher and the girls introducing themselves.

After morning tea Tessa worked with us to clarify the vision. She also spoke about what short stories should have. Although we knew most of it, there were some things that Tessa mentioned which was new learning - like having one idea in a short story and that something has to happen to change the situation, like in Cinderella - The invitation to the ball changed the situation.
